Week 06

On Saturday, my Cove teammates and I celebrated Naomi's birthday in Wokingham. We played a game call "Pub Golf". We dressed up golfing gear and went to different pubs to play games. I had never played this game before and might share this game with the girls back in Hong Kong!
Last Sunday, Cove CC played against Odiham & Greywell CC. They were a tough opposition and I think we played well as a team, despite the loss I made 20 runs and was not out. I used what I had learnt to try and play the role for where I batted and communicate with my teammates what was happening in the middle.

I have been away from the UK for the past two weeks as I was selected for Hong Kong to be part of the Asia Cup Qualifier Squad. This tournament is played between ten teams split into two groups. The top two teams from the finals qualify to play the Asia Cup in Bangladesh. We played well and finished at the top of our group table, but unfortunately, we lost against Malaysia in the semi-final.

The first couple of days in Malaysia was a pre-tour, which is very good for me. Especially as in the UK the cold weather was a bit much for me! The pre-tour gave my body time to acclimatize to the heat. In training, I could already see improvements in my batting from training with Charlotte and the Vipers, I was hitting more balls along the ground. My spin bowling still needs more work to be consistently accurate.

I'm delighted that HK won all the group stage matches, but very sad we didn't get into the final. However, not as disappointed as Nepal must have been, they bowled so well against UAE only getting 87. Nepal had a strong chance to win, but unfortunately it got rained off. All the teams at the ground were sad about the result as we could see many of the Nepal players were heartbroken, we could see even the UAE players felt for Nepal.

I had a good time in the Malaysia over the past two weeks, especially getting to catch up with all the Hong Kong we don’t always get to see because most of us live oversea. Of course it was disappointing not to get the result we wanted, but we know where we can improve. I believe we will come back stronger for the next tour.
