Final Week

Week 09

Heiley

Over the last few weeks it was time to say goodbye to friends and coaches.

Charlotte Edwards invited us to join her for her house party with the Southern Vipers team. We had watched a few Vipers’ games but didn’t get a chance to chat with them often so the party was a great opportunity to socialize with them and share our experiences in Hong Kong. I was so thankful that Lottie gave me the confidence to improve my batting in these 3 months, she always encouraged me when I was too harsh on myself.

I enjoyed being part of Cove CC. I was so appreciative of all our training sessions and I felt that there was great team spirit in the last match. Although we lost the game, we had no regrets. At the last game they wrote me a farewell card with some kind messages that I really was touched by.

It was my honor to be one of the scholars of the Anita Miles Foundation in the first year.

I was so happy to be able to learn the cultural differences between the UK and Hong Kong, and most importantly to experience and observe what the professional cricketers do in training and match days. They have a lot of support staff who help with their skills and enhance their performance. Club Cricket culture in the UK is very social, they often spend time with their team after trainings for a drink or to watch a match. I hope to bring back some of this culture to Hong Kong bring about small changes not only in the high performance environment but also in the community.
